Flour: Self raising, plain, strong white bread, polenta, spelt
Sugar: caster and icing, soft light brown
Baking powder (and cream of tartar, bicarbonate of soda)
Vanilla essence and pods, orange flower water, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon
Dark chocolate (I like Waitrose’s large blocks – v cheap; Divine’s 100g bar dark chocolate)
Nuts: walnuts, ground, flaked and whole almonds, hazelnuts, pine nuts
Raisins, sultanas, uncoloured cherries
Dried yeast
Tins and jars
Capers
Artichokes
Sun-dried tomato puree
Olives
Chopped tomatoes
Chickpeas (for curries and hummus)
Cannelloni beans (for soups and salads)
Tuna (buy sustainable -avoid John West): Sainsbury’s is good as is Fish4Ever; sardines, anchovies and mackerel
Barts red Thai curry paste, fish sauce, coconut milk in sachets, lime leaves
Mayonnaise (for emergency garli mayo)
High fruit jams
Spices:
Coriander, cumin, methi leaves, fenugreek, curry powder or leaves, turmeric, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, allspice, red chili flakes
Pasta: spaghetti, pasta shapes, noodles
Rice and grains: Basmati, Thai, Italian short grain brown rice, spelt, couscous
Black peppercorns, Maldon Sea Salt and a cheaper salt for cooking pasta
Garlic and ginger
Always in the fridge:
Lemons
Herbs
Butter
Single cream or mascarpone
Dijon Mustard
Parmesan
Tahini (for hummus)
Red and green chilis
In the freezer:
Emergency bread

Good ice cream (e.g. Green&Blacks, Minghella, Rocombe Farm, Marshfield)
